On 28 May 2026 UNA-UK hosted a hustings event 'The leader the world needs: Appointing the next UN Secretary-General'. The evening at Central Hall Westminster brought together four candidates standing to become the next UN Secretary-General. The first candidate to speak was Michelle Bachelet, Former President of Chile and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, who is nominated by Brazil and Mexico. The interview was moderated by Lyse Doucet, Chief International Correspondent at the BBC.
