China missile test branded a 'warning shot' for Australia's security
IPA Research Fellow Colleen Harkin claims Australians can no longer rely on geography for protection and must take national defence far more seriously. “To see a long-range missile in our neighbourly waters has got to kind of be the warning shot to say that the old idea that our geographic and isolated location was somehow part of our security consciousness that has to end,” Ms Harkin told Sky News host James Morrow. “That illusion has to end, and we have to get much more serious about our security and our defence relationships with our alliances. “I think this is an absolute warning shot.”
