How Smart is my Blind Rescue Dog? IQ Test

Today, my foster human has decided to test my cognitive abilities with seven challenges. Now, keep in mind I’m hard of sight, so I’m already playing this game on "Hard Mode." Let’s see if I’m a proper bright spark or if I’ve got nothing but elevator music going on between the ears. First up, he’s doing some sort of shell game with a cup and a sardine. I can hear him faffing about with the plastic, and the smell is absolutely biblical. He puts the cup down and looks at me like I’m supposed to perform a miracle. What does he want, a written request? It’s a cup, mate, not a bank vault. I give it a bit of a nudge, the cup wobbles, and bingo—sardine secured. First point to me. Honestly, he’s making this too easy. Next, he wants to see how long it takes me to get out from under a "blankie." There’s just one problem: the man couldn't throw a blanket if it hit him in the face. I hear it flapping about, then it just lands on the floor next to me. Numpty . Eventually, he manages to actually drape it over my head. Great, now I’m in the dark—more so than usual, anyway. It’s a bit of a faff, feels a bit itchy, so I just give it a proper "wet dog" shake and it’s off. Then we move to the hallway for a "maze." He’s put two laundry baskets in the way. I’m following his voice, thinking we’re going for a stroll, and—Ouch! Watch it! I’ve bumped right into one. A bit of a heads-up would’ve been nice, yeah? I’m blind, remember? You’re meant to be the eyes of the operation, you melt. Then, to make matters worse, I hear him dragging a skateboard over to the barricade. No chance. I’m not doing that again; I’ll end up looking like a right berk. I’ll just nip through the kitchen and meet him on the other side. Lateral thinking, that. Round two of the maze is in the living room. This time it’s a skateboard and a bag. Now that I’ve had a taste of those sardines, my motivation levels are through the roof. I can smell the fishy goodness from across the room. I weave through that rubbish like I’m at Crufts. Easy as pie. Next challenge: do I recognize when they’re leaving? Pull the other one. Of course I do. It’s the only time they ever get off the sofa, turn off the lights, and actually put on some decent clothes. No more tracksuits—that’s the giveaway. I don’t fancy being left behind, so I go for the "Clingy Barnacle" move. I lean right into their legs, looking as pathetic as possible. Sometimes it works and they change their plans. Today? Not so much. Heartbreaking, really. Finally, the "tricks" segment. He wants a paw. Look, I’ll give you the paw, but only if you’ve got the goods. And I expect a proper belly scratch for my troubles, not one of those half-hearted pats. Well, that’s me. Seven challenges down, and I reckon I’ve proven I’m a proper clever clogs.
