Ex-Haas boss Guenther Steiner on Formula 1's best driver, running a racing team & Abu Dhabi 2021

Former Haas F1 Team Principal Guenther Steiner answers questions from the Oxford Union audience about managing drivers in a racing team, favoritism in Formula 1 & which driver on the grid doesn't deserve their seat. Guenther Steiner has worked in Formula 1 since 2001 when he served as Team Principal of Jaguar Racing, having been headhunted by Niki Lauda. The team was bought by Red Bull in 2005 & Steiner worked as co-principal alongside Christian Horner before setting up the brand's NASCAR team in the United States from 2005-2008. He later left to set up a manufacturing company. Steiner returned to Formula 1 as team principal of Haas in 2014, where he remained until 2023. He became a global personality following the success of the Netflix series 'Drive to Survive' which debuted in 2020. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe. The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: https://oxford-union.org/supportus
