Putting Patients at the Center of Care

Patient-centered care treats patients as partners in their own health, honoring their values, needs, and preferences to inform medical decision-making. But impersonal technology, clinician time pressures, reimbursement structures, research gaps, and misinformation often make this ideal elusive. We need purposeful ways to nurture trusting relationships among patients, doctors, and health systems so people feel heard and respected as they consider treatment options. Done well, patient-centered care can deliver on safety, equity, satisfaction, and better health outcomes. Aspen Ideas: Health takes place on the Aspen Institute’s wondrous 40-acre campus in the Rocky Mountains from June 22-25, 2026. The three-day event, which has opened the renowned Aspen Ideas Festival since 2014, is where health’s biggest challenges meet its biggest thinkers. #AspenIdeasHealth #AspenIdeas For more information about Aspen Ideas: Health, visit https://www.aspenideas.org/health.
