Wood Fired Kiln From a Shipping Container for Drying Treating Wood
I built a wood fired kiln out of a 20 foot shipping container. It uses a wood stove to heat the kiln from waste wood. It easily reaches a high enough temperature for treating wood to kill wood boring bugs. I used it for treating wood for export. I was able to build this kiln for a relatively low cost. I built this for treating decorative branches, but it could be easily modified to use for drying lumber or firewood. I cut lumber on my Woodmizer LT15 sawmill. I mostly cut soft wood so I haven’t used it to dry any lumber yet since I prefer selling it green. This kiln replaced one that I previously made out of an RV trailer.
