Why Your Punch Loses Power When You Move

Many karate students can make a reasonable punch while standing still - but the moment they move, the power disappears. In this Connected Karate lesson, Shihan Sennen Harry explains why your punch loses power when you move, and how to keep the feet, stance, hips, body and hand working together as one connected technique. This lesson builds on the first two Connected Karate punching videos: • Why Your Karate Punch Feels Weak: 5 Common Reasons • Why Hip Rotation Alone Won’t Strengthen Your Karate Punch In this lesson, we look at common movement problems such as: • The feet move but the body does not arrive • The hand reaches before the stance can support it • The step is too big, heavy or rushed • The hips turn at the wrong time • Speed is added before the body is connected You will also practise slow movement drills to help you feel how the stance, hip rotation and punch should connect while moving. A moving punch should not feel like separate parts: step, hip, hand. The movement should build like a wave — the step begins it, the hip carries it, and the fist delivers it. Training reminder: Start slowly, work within your own body, and stop if something feels wrong. Clean movement and correct timing matter more than speed or force.
