In this video, we discuss YouTube Premium's exponential growth to 100M subscribers in a matter of a few years of rebranding. It's 2015. YouTube is at the forefront of the video streaming race, emerging as the most preferred platform among other OTT platforms & generating a whopping 5.5B in ad revenue. But a major threat looms. Platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu are experiencing exponential growth, and will soon outrun YouTube via subscription revenues. But YouTube wasn’t going to back down. They launched their own subscription service - YouTube Red offering original content, ad-free experience & downloadable content. Unfortunately for YouTube, it was a catastrophic failure. Heck, even YouTube's chief of original content, admitted in 2018 that Netflix was too far ahead. But YouTube hadn’t backed down just yet. Over the next few years, they closely listened to their users, evolved their service to market demands, and achieved solid acquisition and retention. They called this new variant YouTube Premium. After a decade of launch, YouTube Premium has grown into an absolute behemoth with a massive 100 million subscribers. And although YouTube doesn’t declare Premium’s standalone earnings, it did say that it earned $15B from subscriptions like Premium & Music in FY23, and we believe that Premium is still a big cash cow. In this video, we’ll be breaking down Premiums product & marketing strategy that helped it grow into the giant it is today. Let's Perspectify the shit out of this.
