'The Systems Work of Social Change' Book Launch

The virtual launch of the breakthrough new book, ‘The Systems Work of Social Change', written by Cynthia Rayner and François Bonnici, which draws on two hundred years of history and stories of committed social change-makers to uncover principles and practices for social change that radically depart from traditional approaches, took place last year. The Bertha Centre was honoured by the presence of guest speaker University of Cape Town (UCT) Chancelor Dr. Precious Moloi- Motsepe, alongside panelists Rose Molokoane and Rene Parker, who discussed issues of poverty, inequality, racial justice, and climate change. Current approaches to social change, which rely on industrial models of production and power, are not helping. In fact, they may be designed to entrench the status quo. Speakers: Dr. Solange Rosa: Director of the Bertha Centre Dr. Precious Moloi- Motsepe: UCT Chancelor Kentese Radebe: Bertha Centre Project Manager of the Social Justice Innovation Portfolio Cynthia Rayner: Senior researcher, writer and Adjunct Faculty lecturer François Bonnici: Public health physician and the previous founding director of the Bertha Centre Rose Molokoane: National Coordinator of the South African Federation of the Urban Poor (One of the founding federations affiliated to Slum Dwellers International) Rene Parker: Co founder & CEO of RLabs
