I tesori segreti di SANTA CECILIA in Trastevere

Let's visit together the Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, one of the most beautiful churches in Rome. We'll begin with the exterior, the square named after the saint, and then the spectacular architecture designed by Ferdinando Fuga in the early 1700s at the behest of Cardinal Francesco Acquaviva d'Aragona. Then we'll visit the beautiful funerary monument of Cardinal Paolo Emilio Sfondrati, built in the first half of the 17th century. The interior of the basilica, the 18th-century ceiling, the 13th-century ciborium by Arnolfo di Cambio, and the beautiful statue by Stefano Maderno. Finally, we'll end with the true highlight of this visit: the underlying archaeological area and the marvelous crypt, built in the early 1900s in an eclectic style that we might almost describe as neo-Byzantine.
