AEC Bridgemaster Bus: Too Little, Too Late? [UK Bus History]

Throughout the 1950's the best selling low-height or low-brige bus in the UK was the Bristol Lokekka. But the Lodekka was only available to the state-owned Tilling group of bus companies. If you were part of the British Electric Traction Group, or were an independent, or a municipal, you could not buy the Lodekka. Therefore, in 1956, AEC, in association with body builder ACV (Crossley) and then Park Royal, developed the Bridgemaster. But, sales were disappointing, and only 179 units were sold. It was a case of too little, too late. See and hear the story of the Bridgemaster bus! *Special Note*: A number of the photos seen in this video of the Bridgemaster can be found at: http://www.brindale.co.uk/ach/prv_sit... This site is an absolutely fantastic archive of photographs and the history of Park Royal Vehicles - a leading body builder of buses and coaches in the UK. Its origins dated back to 1889, and closure occurred in July, 1980. Many thanks to http://prv.org.uk for permission to use photos and related infomation on its site to produce this video. #transportationhistory #buses #britishhistory
