HMS Vulture II at Treligga in Cornwall
On the cliffs between Trebarwith Strand and Tregardock are some unusual remains. They are what's left of HMS Vulture II, a bombing and gunnery range for RNAS St Merryn near Padstow in use from 1940 to 1955. This video visits the site and with a mix of video clips and photographs shows what was there, what it was like in wartime, and tells the story of the amazing day when a B17 Flying Fortress came into land on the small grass emergency landing strip causing consternation among the Wrens who ran the place! The music is "I get by" by Charlie Kunz, "Run Rabbit Run" by Flanagan & Allen and "Coming in on a wing and a prayer" by Anne Shelton. If you have any memories of wartime Treligga or any wartime photos please leave a comment. Check out www.derelictplaces.co.uk (for hydealfred's photos) and Wikipedia (Shaun Churchill's photos on Wikipedia Commons) and www.delabole.com for more information.
