Gavin Newsom Governor, California Gavin Newsom is the Governor of California, former Lieutenant Governor, and former Mayor of San Francisco. Newsom has built a reputation for taking on the toughest issues and driving change — often years before they became national consensus. From championing marriage equality to advancing universal health care, raising the minimum wage, and reforming criminal justice, he has consistently broken ground on policies later adopted across the nation. As Governor, he is leading the world’s fourth-largest economy — and the state's charge against the climate crisis. The state is now the most decarbonized major economy in the world, with more than two-thirds of its electricity coming from clean energy. Governor Newsom has committed to 100% clean electricity, worked to phase out new gas-powered cars, invested billions in wildfire prevention and water resilience, and forged global partnerships to fight climate change. He believes economic growth and environmental protection go hand in hand. Newsom’s priorities also include tackling homelessness, expanding housing, ensuring public safety, and creating opportunity for all — always rooted in California values of fairness, innovation, and resilience. He and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, are raising their four children — Montana, Hunter, Brooklynn, and Dutch — in California, the state they are determined to keep healthy, prosperous, and sustainable.
