Doc Savage #1 The Man of Bronze pulp review, series overview and Sanctum Books reprint
#docsavage #pulpfiction #superheroes #superman #booktube I review the first novel of the iconic landmark Doc Savage series: The Man of Bronze. Doc is truly the first classic superhero character in the modern sense. Primarily written by Lester Dent for Street and Smith to follow up their incredible success with The Shadow-Doc is to Superman as The Shadow is to Batman. Siegel and Schuster lifted quite a lot from Doc for the Superman character down to the name and even the fortress of solitude. But Doc is also a great influence on not just Batman and every comic character that followed – but also the vast majority of fictional genres from adventure to science fiction/fantasy to even elements of both James Bond and Star Wars. The character’s exploits along with those of the fabulous five are the core DNA of what everyone associates with comic book characters. Doc is second only to The Shadow in terms of legendary pulp hero status and the character’s influence and the stories themselves remain absolutely timeless. 00:00 Doc Savage overview discussion 13:16 The Man of Bronze novel discussion 24:25 Sanctum Books edition review Vol 14 32:37 Final Summary
