At 19 They Entered the Jungle and Couldn’t See Who Was Firing

Young American boys were drafted into the Vietnam War and sent into a jungle most of them could never have imagined. This video visually reconstructs what it felt like for nineteen-year-old American soldiers to leave home, arrive in Vietnam, and walk into the heat, fear and confusion of jungle warfare. Through realistic vintage photo recreations, we look at the draft, basic training, the first hours in-country, patrols through triple-canopy jungle, booby traps, helicopters, ambushes, Agent Orange, and the long road home for Vietnam veterans who were never truly welcomed back. Walter Briggs brings American history to life through historically inspired visual recreations, showing the human side of the Vietnam War and the generation of young men who carried it for the rest of their lives.
