Oni (demons) are messengers of the gods. We do not drive the demons away by scattering beans! This ritual has been practiced since the Muromachi period (1333-1573). The flame of the torch burns away misfortune, and the blade of the sword cuts off fortitude. Seven demons dance to bring peace to the family, good health, and good fortune.
