Your Makita Battery Isn't Dead... It's LOCKED!

Welcome to an undisclosed location in County Tyrone, where we're tackling one of the biggest problems affecting Makita LXT 18V batteries. In this video I demonstrate a device capable of reading the battery management system (BMS), diagnosing a locked battery, displaying cell voltages, cycle count, pack balance, stored fault codes and, most importantly, resetting the battery lockout so a perfectly healthy battery can charge and work again. For years my solution has been to replace the battery management board with a replacement PCB, but this may be the most elegant repair solution I've found. Instead of opening the battery, soldering or replacing electronics, this tool communicates directly with the battery's control board to determine what's wrong and, where appropriate, remove the lock.
