PART 2: Dobyns Sierra BFS Rod On The Water Review and Test. I cast a variety of lures with the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse 700c. I test the rods reaction to crankbaits, structure sensitivity and other small but important features when selecting a rod. This rod seems so far to be a great rod for pond hopping or any type of shore fishing. It is pretty versatile and should eliminate the need to carry multiple rods around when shore fishing. Not saying this rod couldn't be used on a boat pitching weightless plastics to docks but, shore fishing is what stands out to me so far. A good reel to pair with this rod is the Shimano Curado BFS. At $189, it is a great price for a BFS reel from a reputable reel manufacturer and...is available to purchase in the USA. Companies like Roro Lure also make shallow spools for many existing "normal" baitcasting reels so, that may be an easy option to get into BFS. Many reels like the Daiwa SV reels are pretty capable of casting most bass plastics weightless without modification. This is the first mainstream rod to be specifically made for BFS fishing. I hope that this rod create competition among other rod makers to start to bring quality USA market BFS rods to the market.
