Mario Block

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my channel! In today's project, I'll show you how I transformed an old collapsible storage ottoman into a Super Mario Question Block ottoman with hidden storage. Inspired by the iconic block from the Mario games, this project is both decorative and functional. The ottoman originally came from Walmart and had been sitting around for several years. Since my daughter is a big Super Mario fan, I decided to give it a new life as a unique handmade gift. To start, I removed the original fabric and padding using a seam ripper and X-Acto knife. I wanted a firmer, more box-like shape, so I replaced the side panels and lid covering with EVA floor mat foam. Next, I upgraded the interior by replacing the original lining with faux leather, attaching it with hot glue for a cleaner finish. For the Question Block design, I found a template online and resized it in Inkscape to fit the ottoman. After printing the template, I traced the question marks and corner circles onto the foam and used them as guides. The question marks were made from fun foam using a layered design to create depth and dimension. Once all the pieces were cut, I attached them with contact cement. I completed the lid first, then modified the side templates to ensure the removable lid would still function properly. For the circular corner details, I used foam furniture pads from Dollar Tree, which turned out to be the perfect size for this build. After all the details were attached, I sealed the foam with Plasti Dip and Mod Podge. I also filled any gaps with caulk before moving on to paint. Once everything dried, I applied a matte varnish to protect the finish and reduce shine. The result is a fully functional Super Mario Question Block ottoman that looks like it came straight out of the games while still providing practical storage space. Best of all, it became a special gift for my daughter.
