What Slows Most Aspiring Brokers Down And How to Avoid It

www.yachtbrokermasterclass.com One of the things that slows many aspiring yacht brokers down is discouragement. From the outside, brokerage can look very exciting. Large yachts, wealthy clients, big commissions, glamorous locations. And yes, those things can all be part of the industry. But the reality is that success is not as easy as it may seem. It is not easy to find Central Agency yachts to sell. It is not easy to find serious buyers. And even when you do find a real opportunity, there may be several other brokers involved, many of them more established than you. That can be frustrating. It is easy for me to say, “You need patience.” And you do. But I want to give you a more practical piece of advice. Never spend the commission before it is in your account. I do not just mean physically spending it, although some people do make that mistake. I also mean spending it in your imagination. Do not start planning what you will do with the money before the deal has closed. Do not mentally rely on a commission that has not yet been paid. Because if the deal falls through, or the client buys or sells through another broker, the disappointment becomes much harder to handle. In brokerage, deals can change very quickly. A buyer can disappear. A seller can change their mind. Another broker can enter the conversation. A survey can go badly. A contract can collapse at the last minute. So protect your own motivation. Work hard. Follow up. Stay professional. Learn from every opportunity. But do not allow yourself to become emotionally dependent on money that has not yet arrived. So here is the exercise for this week. Think about one opportunity you are hoping for at the moment. Now ask yourself: am I working on it professionally, or am I already imagining the reward? There is a difference. Stay focused on the work. Stay patient. Keep moving. And only spend the commission when it is actually in your account.
