Built in 1835, the current tower stands 38 feet tall and is constructed of white rubblestone in a conical shape, topped with a black lantern. Its light, a fourth order Fresnel lens, flashes white every 6 seconds and is visible for up to 14 nautical miles from a focal height of 79 feet above sea level. The lighthouse is renowned for its picturesque setting atop dramatic rock ledges and is one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine. The site includes a keeper’s house, now home to the Fisherman's Museum, and is open to the public seasonally for tours and climbing.
