Environmental justice and development | COUNTDOWN | Ms Syeda Rizwana Hasan | TEDxDaffodilU
The environment is of much importance for the development of a country. A country has a very close relationship with nature and natural resources, and those are the sources of livelihood for a vast number of Bangladeshi people. We are killing our rivers though we call Bangladesh a riverine country. We are actually producing unsafe food in the name of hybrid foods to grow more food for the people. In the name of various laws, mass people have lots of limitations to protest random acts against the environment. Syeda Rizwana Hasan is a Bangladeshi attorney and environmentalist. She has particularly focused on regulations for the shipbreaking industry in Bangladesh and was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2009. She was also awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2012 for her "uncompromising courage and impassioned leadership in a campaign of judicial activism in Bangladesh that affirms the people’s right to a good environment as nothing less than their right to dignity and life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
