Triumph Sprint ST 955i Restoration Project. Vid 2b. Fork dismantling, inspection and repair

Visit my playlist for this restoration project:    • Triumph Sprint ST 955i Restoration Project   I know many bikers can relate to the nostalgic love I have for the classic sports tourers, and particularly for this model - the Triumph Sprint ST 955i from the early 2000's. For me, a masterpiece from an era when sport-touring bikes had soul. You probably have your own bikes that give you this feeling, but this one does it for me.... I was lucky enough to find this bike for sale in Brisbane in late 2024, a bit worse for the wear, but still worth renewing. In this video (video 2b) I disassemble a fork leg from scratch, inspect and evaluate all components - repairing some elements, and replacing consumables . This is the second video of a set of 3 covering my experiences in reconditioning the forks of this bike. In this video, I start by illustrating how to dismantle the second fork leg of this bike, then systematically go through each component, inspecting it and evaluating whether it is Ok or needs repair or replacement. While there are a number of consumables in a standard damper-rod style motorcycle fork (dust cover, oil seal, crush washers, and fork oil) there are also some components which often need some degree of repair - particularly the fork tube (or stantion) which can become pitted through everyday use, stone chips etc.. This was the case with my own fork tubes in this video, and I chose to 'repair' them though sanding of pits/divets. I critically assessed all the other non-consumable components in the fork system and found them in satisfactory condition. The third video (vid 2c) will cover fork reassembly, reinstallation onto the bike, and final balancing. My aim for this entire project is admittedly a lofty one..... turning this bike into one not dissimilar to the one that rolled off the Hinckley production line back in 2001.
