By default, modern routers are configured to automatically select the best WiFi channel in each frequency band (e.g. 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz) to communicate over. What’s more is that your router will determine the best WiFi channels to use each time it restarts. This means that if a channel gets congested after a router has chosen to use it for communication, your router will change the channel to a less busy one the next time it reboots. If you manually select the WiFi channel that your router uses, you’ll have to manually change it each time. In addition, WiFi channel congestion is less common these days now that routers utilize higher bandwidth 5 GHz and 6 GHz frequencies as well as the 2.4 GHz frequency. When everyone’s home networks only operated on the 2.4 GHz frequency, it was much more likely that the communications between your devices and your router would get disrupted by other nearby virtual networks. When it comes to the WiFi channels your router uses, the best thing to do is just leave your router alone and let it do its thing.
