Violently Beautiful - An Alaskan Spearfishing Adventure

Last year was my first attempt at trying to spearfish a giant pacific halibut in Alaska. On the seaplane en route to Kodiak I was seated next to an old salt. As I stared out the window wide-eyed at the surreal landscape, he asked me if it was my first time in Alaska. I replied that it was and explained to him what I was attempting to do. As the plane landed gently on the water he looked at me with a half smile and said “...good luck and be careful, Alaska is violently beautiful.” For two years those words stuck with me as I tried relentlessly to find my fish.
