Why Honda Discontinued The Civic In India!

Why did Honda discontinue the Civic in India even though it was not a bad car? In this episode of Decoded by Team-BHP, Utkarsh looks at the 10th-generation Honda Civic and why it failed despite its stunning design, low-slung stance, balanced chassis and strong nostalgic value. The India-spec Honda Civic came with two powertrains: a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol with a CVT, producing 139 BHP and 174 Nm, and a 1.6-litre i-DTEC Turbo diesel with a 6-speed manual, producing 118 BHP and 300 Nm. On paper, that sounds respectable. In the real world, the Civic had a bigger problem: no petrol manual, no diesel automatic, no turbo-petrol halo variant and no clear reason for a ₹20 lakh buyer to choose it over a crossover or a stronger rival like the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra or Toyota Corolla Altis. We break down the Honda Civic India failure story, its launch hype, sales decline, optimistic pricing, missing features, CKD assembly at Honda's Greater Noida plant, and why winning a dying executive sedan segment was not enough to save it.
