My name is Andy. How are you? Let's talk about the Galo language. Galo language: Galo is a Tibeto-Burman language belonging to the Tani branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. It is predominantly spoken in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in regions such as West Siang, Lepa Rada, and Lower Siang districts, as well as parts of Upper Subansiri and East Siang districts. Galo shares linguistic similarities with other Tani languages, including Adi, Nyishi, Tagin, Apatani, and Mising. According to the 2011 Census of India, there are approximately 29,000 native speakers of Galo. The language is considered endangered, as many members of the younger generation increasingly prefer to use English or Hindi over Galo. Galo features several dialects, with the most well-known being Laree, Puugoo, and Karka. The language does not have its own indigenous script, so speakers have adopted a modified version of the Roman script known as `Galoo Ennam, developed by the Galo Language Development Committee in 2008. Galo People and Culture: Like other Tani tribes, the Galo people believe they are descendants of Abo Tani, the primal ancestor of all Tani tribes. Galo women are skilled weavers, renowned for creating intricate designs in their traditional clothing. Galo men are known for their craftsmanship, particularly in bamboo crafts. One of the most distinctive aspects of Galo culture is their unique tradition of naming children—each child's name begins with the last syllable of their father's name. This practice serves as an effective way to trace lineage, essentially creating a visual record of their ancestry. Most Galo people follow Donyi-Polo (where Donyi means "sun" and Polo means "moon"), an indigenous religion that worships the sun, moon, and other nature spirits. Mopin is the main festival celebrated by the Galo community. It takes place in April and is an agricultural and harvest festival. During Mopin, people dress in white traditional attire, gather in celebration, and seek blessings from Mopin Ane, the goddess of agriculture and prosperity. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
