"Most Ready When the Nation is Least Ready" Gen Mattis at MCA Chicago Dinner
At the 2022 MCA Chicago Professional Dinner and Wounded Warrior Leadership Awards presentation at Solider Field on Friday, 29 July, Gen James N. Mattis gave his remarks about the future of the Marine Corps by taking a deep dive through history to provide context. From being scattered across the Navy on ships to assaulting trenches in WWI, and following the evolution of warfare, Mattis states the case of the National Defense Strategy he spearheaded that has guided the creation of Force Design 2030. He notes that "[Marines have] adapted repeatedly to be the most ready when the nation is least ready." Looking at the rise of autocratic aggression from Russia and China, especially as it relates to Ukraine, Mattis states the need for a modern, capable US Marine Corps.
