NVHA – Sgt. Rod Compton – Army Riverines – Vietnam – 06-0009
@NVHArchive – Rod and Janine Compton are a great supportive couple. They are small town God and country patriots whose fathers served in WW II and whose sons went to war in the Middle East. Sgt. Compton served in Vietnam throughout 1966 in an Army Riverine force in the Mekong Delta. These were Army troops who were housed and transported to missions by the Brown Water Navy. Rod earned a Silver Star and the Purple Heart in a battle where he was wounded along with his friend Danny Miller who did not survive his wounds. The medal he values most is the Combat Infantry Badge. Those of you who have earned that badge will know that it isn’t for the “action hero” feeling. It’s for the honor of serving with the honorable.
