Cream or Powder Blush and Bronzer: When to Use Which, and Where to Apply

Use cream bronzer and blush for a natural glow, powder for long wear, and never mix cream and powder brushes. JACKS beauty line founder and makeup artist Miriam Jacks shows the cheek routine with her guest Dee and explains the one decision that changes the result: cream or powder. Cream products give a natural, glowy finish and are easy to touch up during the day. Powder lasts longer, so Miriam reaches for it before a shoot, a long day out, or in the heat. You can also layer both, powder underneath to set and cream on top. It works like lipstick: a matte finish stays longer, a glossy one fades faster. Brushes decide how clean it looks. Cream bronzer and cream blush go on with a blender or foundation brush. Powder goes on with the #23 brush. The one rule Miriam follows: never use the same brush across textures, always keep one brush for cream and one for powder. For placement, start the bronzer at the back along your cheekbones and never go too deep, so the face lifts instead of dragging down. Keep the area from mouth to ear light. On a slim face, stay off the front; on a rounder face, bring it forward. If your hairline sits high, take the bronzer over the forehead to balance it. A little on the nose and over the eyes gives a sun-kissed look without any eyeshadow. Then blush. Miriam uses Cream Blush in Tea Rose and Peach on the same brush as the cream bronzer, working from the front of the cheeks toward the back, and optionally over temples, nose, and eyes.
