El futuro es superconductor | Pablo Cayado | TEDxOviedoUniversity

What do an MRI, a levitating train, a quantum computer, and the major energy challenges of the future have in common? In this talk, Pablo Cayado introduces us to the fascinating world of superconductors: materials capable of behaving almost magically when cooled sufficiently. Through everyday examples, historical references, and live demonstrations, the talk explains how superconductivity allows us to conduct electricity without resistance, generate extraordinary magnetic fields, and make possible technologies that until recently seemed like science fiction. From medicine to quantum computing, from transportation to nuclear fusion, superconductors emerge as a key element in imagining a more efficient, powerful, and sustainable future. With an approachable and accessible style, Cayado transforms a complex phenomenon of applied physics into an invitation to look at science with wonder: sometimes, the future doesn't begin with a large machine, but with a material capable of changing the rules of the game. A talk about levitation, energy, innovation, and the enormous potential of what we cannot yet see, but which is already supporting part of the world to come. A graduate in Physics from the University of Oviedo, he completed his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona, working in the field of superconductors. After completing his thesis, he spent more than eight years abroad conducting research at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany and the University of Geneva. He is currently a recipient of a Ramón y Cajal grant to continue his research in the field of superconductors. After returning to the university as a research professor in the Physics Department, he spent more than eight years abroad conducting research at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany and the University of Geneva. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
