La basilique Saint-Donatien à Nantes : reconstruire au-delà des pierres

"Our basilica is closed to worship for an indefinite period due to the roof fire." This notice, inscribed on the website of the Saint-Donatien Basilica in Nantes, recalls the fire that ravaged the church in June 2015. A few months later, work began quickly. It is expected to be completed in 2021. But beyond the stones, the life of the parish has been disrupted. No more masses, no more baptisms, weddings, or burials in the church. What is the meaning of this restoration project for the local Christian community? What pastoral challenge does it pose? How can we live out the community dimension when the parish can no longer welcome the faithful? Report.
