The Deadliest Tubing Disaster in South Africa | Storms River
On March 25, 2000, a group of 24 people went tubing on the Storms River in South Africa. Heavy rain had raised the water levels, but the trip was allowed to continue. As they reached a meeting point between two rivers, a sudden surge of water swept 13 people into a narrow gorge. Only 9 escaped, while 2 held onto rocks for hours before rescue. The bodies of the victims were found days later.
