Documentary film about Taiwan’s 157 km bridge, built directly across active fault lines and earthquake zones. This giant structure must MOVE to avoid collapse while high-speed trains cross it at speeds of up to 300 km/h. The Changhua–Kaohsiung Viaduct is one of the largest elevated sections of Taiwan’s high-speed railway. It stretches above cities, highways, rivers, farmland, and regions where the ground continues to shift and sink. How do you build a bridge directly over an active fault? Why can an extremely rigid structure be more dangerous than one designed to move? And how do thousands of concrete supports help this enormous viaduct survive earthquakes, typhoons, floods, and ground subsidence? In this documentary, you will see how engineers produced bridge girders weighing around 800 tons, transported them across completed sections, and installed them using gigantic launching machines. We examine how they maintained track precision across more than 150 kilometers, prevented bridge spans from falling, and created an automatic system capable of stopping high-speed trains after powerful seismic activity is detected. But the danger did not disappear when the railway opened. The ground is still moving, some regions continue to sink, and every major earthquake requires detailed inspections before trains can safely return.
