C'est pas sorcier - Les fourmis

Fred and Jamy take us to observe ants. Their truck heads towards Mulhouse and stops in a coniferous forest inhabited by wood ants. Fred reveals the characteristics of an anthill and its inhabitants. This insect, called a hymenopteran, has existed for millions of years. In France, at least 180 different species have been identified. We will see how ant colonies organize themselves and reproduce thanks to their queen, and what ecological role is played by wood ants, which feed primarily on insects. In the terrarium, Fred shows us the work of the foraging ants responsible for feeding their colonies. We will also talk about more formidable ants such as the fungus-growing ants or the driver ants of Africa. Then, we will visit a laboratory in Toulouse where they study the Argentine ant, which farms aphids to "milk" them.
