Workers' compensation & insurance in the spotlight as rescue efforts in the George collapse continue
In 2022, the Federated Employers Mutual Assurance noted with concern that “Struck by” accidents comprised a massive 32.3 % of the workplace incidents reported to the body. In light of the recent building collapse in George in the Western Cape, this has once again brought attention to the importance of having the correct or appropriate insurance to deal with unforeseen tragedies like this one. The construction industry is a dangerous one, and safety in the industry should be of utmost importance.
