About the series: As an extension of the World Music Heritage Series conceived and produced by maestro Bhai Baldeep Singh for Anād Records, the YaarAnād Virtual Baithak Series aims to celebrate excellence in the field of music, arts, dance, theatre, and literature. The YaarAnād Virtual Baithak Series marks the 550th birth anniversary of Gurū Nānak Dēv, the first gurū of the Sikhs. The artists: Representatives of an illustrious Rabābī lineage of Darbār Sāhib, Amritsar, the Partap Brothers are proud musical exponents of the riches of Sikh Kirtan. Over the course of more than three decades in North America and abroad, they have carried on the legacy of their father, Saṅt Pratap Singh, a notable student of renowned Rabābīs Bhai Tābbā and Bhai Lāl. Davinder Pratap Singh is the eldest of the brothers. He is not only an able vocalist—a student of his father and Jagjit Singh Taras—but also adept at playing the Violin, Sāraṅgī, Dilrubā, Tāus, and Afghani Rabāb. In 1969, the 500th year since Guru Nanak’s birth, he was the youngest musician to receive Guru Nanak Dev University’s first prize for his Śabad recital. Mohinder Pratap Singh began studying Tablā at age six, later learning Sitār and harmonium. He is proficient in larger and less commonly heard Tālas. Ravinder Pratap Singh started playing Tablā at the age of twenty-eight, studying with his father and with his uncle, Ustad Ram Singh. His playing is marked by the prominent use of the Kinār.
