Como trasplantar la poinsettia o flor navideña - Hogar Tv por Juan Gonzalo Angel
@juangangel Euphorbia pulcherrima, commonly known as poinsettia, is a plant in the Euphorbiaceae family, native to Mesoamerica, especially southeastern Mexico and Guatemala. It is frequently used in gardening as a shrub, but primarily in floriculture as a houseplant at Christmas. There are more than 100 cultivated varieties of this species. It is a shrub or small tree that can range in height from 0.6 to 3 m, with large, toothed, dark green leaves (7 to 16 cm) and small yellow inflorescences. The showy bracts that form the upper part of the plant, which are red, pink, greenish-white, or yellowish-white, are often mistaken for flowers. However, the true flowers of this plant are the yellow buds, which contain petals, filaments, and pistils. It blooms in winter. In the Northern Hemisphere, it blooms from November to February, and it is essential that the plant receives no light for approximately 12 hours a day, from October until Christmas, in order to flower. History[edit] The Mexica called it Cuetlaxóchitl (Flower that withers) in Nahuatl. This name comes from the combination of two words: "cuetlahui," meaning "to wither," and "xochitl," meaning "flower." It is also said to come from cuetlaxtli, meaning leather, and xochitl; when combined, the first loses its -tli ending. Therefore, a literal translation could be "Leather Flower" due to the bright red color of the petals, similar to freshly shed skin. Another, less common, interpretation relates to the term cuitlatl, which means excrement in Nahuatl, since birds, upon defecating, spread the ingested seeds, and the plant grew from their droppings. It was introduced to the rest of the world during the colonial era, when churches were adorned with it during the Christmas holidays. In Argentina, it is known as the Federal Star because its red color is reminiscent of the emblematic crimson of the Federal Party and because the arrangement of its petals resembles a star. It was also used in the 1970s as a symbol by the Montoneros, an armed popular organization. It is also known as the poinsettia, Christmas Eve flower, or Christmas flower. In Nicaragua, it is known as the 'pastora' because it was used as a decoration during the posadas (traditional Christmas processions) during the Christmas season. In Venezuela, it is called the 'papagayo'. In the United States, Paul Ecke, a third-generation member of the Ecke family—German immigrants who settled in Los Angeles in 1900—was responsible for promoting the use of this plant during the winter season. In addition to transforming the market by using cuttings flown in instead of mature plants shipped by train, he distributed free potted plants to television stations for appearances from Thanksgiving through Christmas. They were featured on programs like The Tonight Show and the Bob Hope Christmas special, which boosted the species' market presence. Source: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euphorb...
