Making the Fiberglass Roof! Cyberpunk Miata Build: Part 3

In this video we start work on the fiberglass outer skin for the custom fastback. As a lot of you have requested, I've made this video slightly longer and more detailed than my previous ones so please enjoy. Build Process: Step 1: Create the shape of the part you want to replicate. (plug/buck) Step 2: Apply sealer and release agent to the plug. Allow both to cure fully. Step 3: Lay the first coat of fiberglass, ( I call this the skin coat or coupling coat and I normally use 225 gsm chopped strand mat) Step 4: Leave 24 hours for skin coat to cure fully. Step 5: Sand the skin coat and apply main layer of 450 gsm (I used 2 layers of 450 for this project, allowing it to cure fully between layers. On smaller parts, both layers of 450 can be applied at the same time.) Step 5a(optional): Apply a layer of 30gsm tissue over the top of the 450s to make the finished surface smoother. Step 6: Leave part to cure for at least 24 hours to minimize warping. Step 7: Demould the part and trim. Step 8: Serve with a side of seasonal vegetables.
