WorldStove's PupStove - Boil Test #2 - Shorter pot Stand

Yesterday I did my first boil test (Lab0236) on the PupStove that Nat Mulcahy from WorldStove sent me for Christmas. In that test I used a pot stand that held the pot 2" above the stove. I've had several requests to do another test using a pot stand that held the pot 1" above the stove. So that's what I'm doing in this lab. The PupStove is a pyrolytic, multi-fuelled camping stove, otherwise known as wood-gas stove. In case you're not familiar with pyrolization it is," the process of thermally decomposing hydrocarbons in an oxygen poor or oxygen free environment. The products are char, ash, various gases, liquids and tars. Charcoal is made by pyrolization by heating wood in a low oxygen environment. Often, the heat is provided by partial combustion of the wood. The partial combustion drives much of the fuel content is driven off as smoke, and leaves behind charcoal. Pyrolizing wood stoves harness the energy content in the smoke by adding hot air to it and burning it thoroughly. The heat is used for cooking or heating. The resulting charcoal can be burned for other uses, or composted to improve soil quality and provide a way to sequester carbon long-term to help fight global warming." I was rather surprised that the time to boil was about the same time even though the outside temperature was lower, 40° instead of 45°, and the water temperature was was also lower, 41° instead of 52° (the colder outside temperature took the water down). One note, when I took the pot inside into the light I saw that the soot on the pot was much less than the amount on the pot yesterday. I don't know if that was because of the change in the height of the pot stand or not. I'll have to look into that.
