The Prophet corrected them: that is not arrogance. The Reality Check: If you know yourself – what you do in the toilet, how you cry when sick, how helpless you are – you have no right to be arrogant. Allah's sunnah is that when you put yourself down, He raises you. When you puff yourself up, people belittle you and Allah humiliates you. The Story of Balqis (Queen of Sheba): She was a disbeliever who worshipped the sun, yet she spoke the truth about Sulaiman's (AS) power. Allah agreed with her. Truth is the believer's lost property – take it from whoever says it, even an enemy. The Prophet's ﷺ Humility at the Conquest of Mecca: With an army so large it had to enter from multiple gates, at age 53, conquering the city that had exiled him – he entered with his head bowed down on the saddle of his camel. H e was offered the choice between being a prophet-king or a prophet-slave. He chose to be a prophet-slave. Imam Malik's Humility: Abu Ja'far al-Mansur, the ruler, wanted to make Imam Malik's Muwatta the official constitution of the state. Imam Malik refused, saying: "The companions had different valid opinions. Let the people follow their own scholars." This is true fairness (insaf) – a rare commodity.
