IS THIS CHAMISA’S BLUEPRINT FOR TAKING POWER? IS THIS FEASIBLE?

Nelson Chamisa has released a briefing document outlining the objectives of his United Kingdom diaspora engagement tour, his political ideology, his vision for Zimbabwe and his current role in building a national alternative. The document contains several encouraging commitments, including accountable leadership, democratic institutions, economic transformation, social justice, national reconciliation, modern infrastructure, quality healthcare, improved education and greater inclusion of young people, women, workers and marginalised communities. In this Zimwaves TV commentary, we first acknowledge the positive ideas contained in Chamisa’s vision. We then respectfully ask the questions that still require clear answers. What exactly does “citizenocratic transformation” mean in practice? Is Chamisa building a political party, a citizens’ movement or a broader national coalition? How will leaders and candidates be selected? What structures currently exist? How will his ambitious healthcare, education and infrastructure programmes be financed? This is not an attack on Nelson Chamisa. It is a fair examination of a man presenting himself as an alternative national leader. Zimbabweans deserve both an inspiring vision and a practical implementation plan. Chamisa has presented the dream. Now the nation is waiting for the architecture.
