When Things Don't Go as Planned + UPDATE | Raising Multilingual Children
Raising multilingual children is absolutely possible, but it takes a some of planning. Early on, we are told to create a family language plan, chose a family language strategy, and do our best to stay consistent. But what about when our plans fall apart? In this video I discuss how to flexible and agile after plans change I also provide an UPDATE TO OUR SITUATION and how we adapted. VIDEO INSPIRATION: This video was inspired by a shift in our own language approach after unforeseen circumstances prevented our French au pair from coming just weeks before her arrival date. We had to quickly find interim childcare for our kids and a new au pair at the same time. My oldest (3.5 years old) ended up attending a Spanish immersion preschool sooner than we'd planned and after a short time in part-time English daycare, my youngest (almost 1.5 years old) met and quickly fell in love with our new Colombian au pair. We chose a Spanish-speaking au pair because we had a hard time quickly finding a French au pair and expanding our search to Spanish speakers offered so many more options and helped us find someone we felt great about to watch our young children. In a very short time, our language of emphasis went from French to Spanish, but everything is working out great. My oldest is getting an extra French boost by attending French Saturday school and both of my sons are making leaps and bounds of progress in all three of the languages, ESPECIALLY Spanish. It wasn't how I'd planned it, but seeing them interact at family gatherings in all three languages, including during a surprise visit from French-speaking extended family, made all the chaos worth it. subscribe: https://bit.ly/3BGFnyP https://liveyourlanguagenow.com STARTING YOUR BILINGUAL PARENTING JOURNEY: https://bit.ly/3q6M3nP BILINGUAL PARENTING TOOLKIT: https://bit.ly/2ZM4i6G Mama Llama Linguist morning binder link (coming soon) #raisingbilingualkids #bilingualkids #bilingualism #multilingualism #nonnativespeakers
