8 Habits of Highly Successful Students

Truly successful students don't just do well in the classroom — they've got it together across every area of their lives. So what separates them from everyone else? In this video (a riff on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) I break down 8 habits that successful students share, none of which are about raw intelligence. ✅ THE 8 HABITS Be a forward thinker — get ahead of life's looming responsibilities instead of letting them ambush you. Move toward adulthood on purpose — build adult skills early so they're ready when you need them. Become a solution finder — including the brilliant "15-Minute Rule" borrowed from the software world. Build relationships with your teachers — your future network and letter-of-rec writers. Learn outside of class — branching beyond your major builds creativity and unexpected opportunities. Keep an ear to the ground — opportunities are everywhere if you know where to look. Protect your physical & mental health — burnout destroys the very performance you sacrificed for. Try things before you feel ready — flip the "can do → want to do → do" line into a self-reinforcing circle. The takeaway: being an all-around successful student is mostly a set of habits, and habits are something anyone can build. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 What makes a student successful all-around? 0:47 #1: Be a forward thinker 2:58 #2: Move toward adulthood on purpose 3:51 #3: Become a solution finder (the 15-Minute Rule) 4:58 #4: Build relationships with your teachers 6:27 #5: Learn outside of class 7:40 #6: Keep an ear to the ground for opportunities 8:40 #7: Protect your physical & mental health 9:39 #8: Try things before you feel ready 📚 SOURCES MENTIONED "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey "The Happiness Equation" by Neil Pasricha 👇 What habit would you add to this list?
