An alternator idler pulley ensures smooth running of the V-belt and thus protects the auxiliary chain components. Noise and fuel consumption are reduced. A defective alternator idler pulley causes strong V-belt vibration. This exerts significant forces on the auxiliary chain components, which can lead to belt tensioner failure, among other things. The special INA tool (item number 400 0444 10) can be used to properly check and replace the alternator idler pulley. Today, one in four vehicles is already equipped with an alternator idler pulley.
