How Bad Was The M6 Heavy?

When people think about US tanks, heavy tanks generally don't come to mind. The most noteworthy American heavy tanks were probably the M103 and T28, which is a shame, because they likely wouldn't have existed without the M6 / M6A1. The M6 was the US Army's first foray into heavy armored fighting vehicles since the Mark VIII Liberty, a World War 1 era vehicle. It may not have entered service itself, but the M6 helped pave the way for bigger and better designs. So why was it canceled in the first place?
