The kingdom is wounded. The skies are grey. The villages that survive do so in patches - improvised structures built atop older stone, lashed together by the people who refused to leave. At a crossroads, a woman runs a food stall the way she has run it for twenty years. A man rides between settlements, gathering and delivering what news the world still has to offer. Life has narrowed to the size of a road and the people on either end of it. A traveler arrives with a companion no one in this world has ever seen — a figure twelve feet tall, bound with bark and moss, who has not walked beyond his threshold in longer than anyone alive could measure. The crossroads goes still around him. Elsewhere, a young knight rides home with news of his own. He finds the gates closed against him. He finds his father in council. He finds out that the kingdom already knows what he came to tell them. And on a road no one is watching, something is in the air that should not be. What follows is a moment that changes everything before, and everything that follows. 🌲 The Series Begins THE RETURN is the third short film in an ongoing dark fantasy anthology set in the world of Vaelundra. Visual Aesthetics & References: Master reference plates and scene-by-scene storyboards were synthesized using Nano Banana 2 to establish the general aesthetic. Audio: Dialogue features natively generated audio to maintain character-specific cadence, layered with music sourced from Artlist.io.
