Around Sri Lanka Road Trip: Day 1 - From Galle Face to Sella Kataragama on my XR250 Baja Embark on an exhilarating journey as we kickstart our "Around Sri Lanka Road Trip" on Day 1, riding from the iconic Galle Face in Colombo to the serene town of Sella Kataragama. Mounted on my trusty XR250 Baja, we'll traverse through diverse landscapes, experiencing the vibrant pulse of Sri Lanka's southern coast. Morning: Colombo to Galle We begin at dawn with the cool sea breeze at Galle Face Green, a historic stretch in Colombo that offers panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Heading south, we'll weave through the bustling streets of Colombo, making our way to the Southern Expressway. As we hit the open road, the cityscape gradually gives way to the lush greenery and coastal beauty of the Western Province. Midday: Exploring Galle and Beyond Our first major stop is the charming city of Galle. Here, we'll take a breather and explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Galle Fort. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, admire the colonial architecture, and perhaps enjoy a quick bite at a local café. Back on the road, we continue along the southern coast, passing through picturesque towns like Unawatuna and Mirissa, where golden beaches and turquoise waters beckon. Afternoon: Journey Through Hambantota As the sun climbs higher, we make our way inland towards Hambantota. This stretch of the journey offers a contrasting landscape with rolling hills and the occasional wildlife sightings. Keep an eye out for elephants crossing near Udawalawe National Park! We'll refuel both our bikes and ourselves at a local eatery, sampling some authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. Evening: Arrival in Sella Kataragama The final leg of Day 1 takes us towards Sella Kataragama, a town steeped in spiritual significance and natural beauty. As the day draws to a close, we'll reach our destination, where the Kataragama Temple awaits.
