Έκθεση «Why Look at Animals? ∆ικαιοσύνη για τη µη ανθρώπινη ζωή»

Το «Why Look at Animals? ∆ικαιοσύνη για τη µη ανθρώπινη ζωή» ήταν µια έκθεση για τα δικαιώµατα των ζώων, για την ανάγκη αναγνώρισης και υπεράσπισης της ζωής τους ως κεντρικού θέµατος του πολιτισµού µας και για τις αδικίες, την εκμετάλλευση και την βία που υφίστανται στα χέρια των ανθρώπων. Πηγή έµπνευσης για αυτή και αφετηρία της αποτελεί το επιδραστικό οµότιτλο κείµενο του John Berger, Why Look at Animals? (1980), που διερευνά τη μεταβαλλόμενη σχέση μεταξύ ανθρώπων και ζώων στο πλαίσιο της νεωτερικότητας. Το κείμενο επισημάνει πώς τα ζώα, που κάποτε ήταν βαθιά ενσωματωμένα στη ζωή του ανθρώπου, έχουν απομακρυνθεί, αντικειμενοποιηθεί και εμπορευματοποιηθεί όλο και περισσότερο. A Case for the Rights of Non-Human Lives" centred on animal rights and animal well-being, highlighting the urgent need to recognise and defend the lives of non-human animals in an anthropocentric world that exploits, oppresses and brutalises them. The exhibition is inspired by John Berger’s seminal essay of the same name, “Why Look at Animals?” (1980), which explores the changing relationship between humans and animals, particularly in the context of modernity. The essay reflects on how animals, once deeply integrated into human life, have become increasingly distanced, objectified and commodified.
