🏙️ Welcome to Laleli, Istanbul’s Textile and Wholesale Trade Center! In this video, I take you on a walking tour through the streets of Laleli, one of Istanbul’s most important commercial districts. Famous especially for its textile and ready-to-wear wholesalers, Laleli has been one of Türkiye’s busiest trading centers for decades. Laleli’s commercial activity began to grow rapidly in the 1980s. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the area became an international textile hub, attracting thousands of buyers from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Eastern European countries. Today, wholesalers and businesspeople from the Middle East, North Africa, the Balkans, and many African countries also come to Laleli for trade and shopping. Thousands of shops in the area sell women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, evening wear, sportswear, knitwear, shoes, bags, and many other textile products, mainly on a wholesale basis. Laleli is one of the commercial centers that makes a significant contribution to Türkiye’s ready-to-wear exports and welcomes visitors from all over the world every day. Laleli is located on the European side of Istanbul, close to the Historic Peninsula. Getting there is very easy. You can take the T1 Bağcılar–Kabataş Tram Line, get off at Laleli–İstanbul University Station, and reach the textile markets within a few minutes on foot. Yenikapı Metro and Marmaray stations are also within walking distance. Laleli can also be reached easily from Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport by public transportation or taxi.
